The Medda Story: Martin Bshouty Takes the 60 Second Founder
We sat down with Martin Bshouty, founder of Medda, a company that is changing how patients, doctors, and anyone interested in their health access and understand their health data
In Episode 6 of the 60 Second Founder, we sat down with Martin Bshouty, founder of Medda, a company that is changing how patients, doctors, and anyone interested in their health access and understand their health data.
Changing Patient AND Provider Experiences
Information today, especially in healthcare, is everywhere. As more visits to specialists, family practitioners, walk-in clinics, and even the metrics tracked on a wearable health device, this information is rarely, if ever, in one place.
This lack of uniformity can make it difficult for patients and practitioners alike, and the realization that every healthcare innovation idea tied back to people having access to their own healthcare records was the catalyst that drove founder Martin Bshouty to start Medda.
“After three startups and two kids, I realized every idea to improve healthcare required people to have their health information with them, so we got to work”
Medda: Your Accessible Health Story
Medda is a healthcare platform that bridges the gap between people and their care by providing better access, understanding, and connectivity of health information.
Patients and physicians can utilize Medda to securely pull medical, allied health, dental, and other health-related data from anywhere in Canada, and soon, anywhere in the world.
This access, in addition to Medda’s interface that can provide as much or as little information as each user desires, both patients and practitioners will have access to records in a novel way - creating care that is safer, faster, and more effective.
“When patients and providers share the same, complete picture, care becomes faster, safer, and more effective, letting every visit start with context, not catch-up.”
Canadian Roots: A Local Start
Being headquartered in Calgary has provided exciting future considerations, especially the future of AI Leadership in Canada. Given that Medda operates with both private and public care systems, being Canadian-based has allowed for an ideal test bed.
Additionally, building within Canada’s unique healthcare system (currently live in Manitoba, and expanding to Alberta soon) ensures compliance and scalability within other markets that face similar issues.
“We’re excited about the future of AI leadership in Canada”
Looking Ahead
With the current development of Medda’s foundational products for both patients and physicians, and a scheduled release coming over the next six months, Medda is gearing up for growth and implementation over the next year.
While currently only live in Manitoba, Medda is eyeing Canadian expansion, specifically in Calgary, in the near future.
It may be early stages, but the goal of improving continuity and outcomes of care for everyone involved has been witnessed, and provided impact for patients and physicians alike.
“We’re seeing the early stages of impact already, but we have a very long way to go.”
The Founder Journey
From his previous ventures at Geofilter Studio and Neo Financial to his current position at Medda, Martin has been involved with building companies since the start of his career.
A piece of advice he shared with his wealth of startup experience related to the idea of perspective and observation. He believes that the most difficult problems founders encounter, whether professionally or otherwise, are solved through these practices, and the moment that these practices are done in isolation, the difficulty grows significantly.
As Medda continues to develop and grow, the need for input from patients, practitioners, and anyone in between is vital to creating a system that creates the most benefit. Observation and perception with their core target markets are two keys to Medda’s success; a fact that is crystal clear to the company’s leadership.
“The hardest problems in the world are solved through observation and perspective, and the moment you do either of those in isolation, you are setting yourself up for failure.”
