3 Takeaways from Agentic AI in Practice: From Prototype to Production đ¤đ ď¸
A recap of October 9th's Calgary Tech Thursday's session on Agentic AI with Wish Bakshi and Patrick Smith
Last weekâs Tech Thursday session, co-hosted by Arcus Power, saw our panel dive into Agentic AI, what that really means, and what the future holds.
This is our recap of the top ideas from the Agentic AI in Practice Tech Thursday panel.

TL;DR
Proven Success in Automation Allows Freedom: As powerful as AI Systems have become, human review loops are crucial to ensuring AI benefits are maximized and tasks are completed more efficiently.
AI Driving Energy Sector Transformation: The drastic rising needs of energy and the size of the energy sector provides a significant opportunity for disruption and innovation.
Just Because Itâs Capable Doesnât Mean It Should: The sheer power of AI can make it a tempting solution to every problem; but the fact of the matter is that if it isnât used properly, it can cause much more harm than good.

Agent vs. Agentic AI:
Before diving in, take a listen to Wish Bakshi, Founder of AQ Energy, define the difference between Agent and Agentic AI.
3 Takeaways from AI Leaders Wish Bakshi and Patrick Smith:
1. Proven Success in Automation Allows Freedom
As with any AI conversation, there can be questions about the cost-benefit of utilizing an AI system, specifically in cases of time saved vs. accuracy. As both Wish and Patrick described, their own specific use cases balance the need for accuracy with the speed of Agentic AI, providing the humans behind the task with a system that promotes speed and efficiency.
Why this is important:
Ensuring that an AI system is used as a tool as opposed to an end-all-be-all is crucial in ensuring the success of automating tasks continues. These systems are only proven successful and provide the accompanying freedom when they are used as people âelevatorsâ not âreplacersâ.
Key Takeaway: As powerful as AI Systems have become, human review loops are crucial to ensuring AI benefits are maximized and tasks are completed more efficiently.
2. AI is Driving Energy Sector Transformation
The global demands across various sectors, be it AI, Crypto, or other similar entities, has created a mass transformation about how we view energy. The demand increase is so great that the current capabilities of both generation and transmission are falling behind, providing a new industry where innovation is needed.
Why this is important:
The shift in energy demand, especially when considering the current state of generation and transmission capabilities, has opened up a major opportunity for innovation at the intersection of infrastructure and AI.
Key Takeaway: The drastic rising needs of energy and the size of the energy sector provides a significant opportunity for disruption and innovation.
3. Just Because Itâs Capable Doesnât Mean It Has To
AI systems are extremely powerful tools that have capabilities far greater than even just five years ago; with that said, the increased capability means nuanced use of these systems is even more important, as evidenced by Wishâs example of a misuse costing significant resources and capital.
Why this is important:
AI on its own can be costly, and just because it has the capability to do a certain task or action, does not necessarily mean it will be more efficient or cost effective. This underscores the need to create AI Systems that are both trustworthy and sustainable, and not implementing every system on every issue.
Key Takeaway: The sheer power of AI can make it a tempting solution to every problem; but the fact of the matter is that if it isnât used properly, it can cause much more harm than good.
